Research Area - Electricity access and reliability

Globally, almost a million people don’t have access to electricity and about 2.6 million don’t have access to clean cooking fuels. Further, an electric grid connection does not ensure reliable electricity supply, especially in the developing world. With increased warming due to anthropogenic climate change, electricity reliability is an issue even in the developed world, whether it’s due to wild fires in California or hurricanes in the eastern US. At CETlab, we strive to understand the barriers to energy access and the incentives and policies that would increase access to reliable energy services.
