Bio

Yang Qiu is a PhD student at Bren School of Environmental Science & Management. His research focuses on evaluating the environmental and economic implications of low-carbon transition. Specifically, Yang has studied the economic feasibility of recycling rare earth metals from efficient lighting technologies. He has also assessed the environmental trade-offs of applying direct air capture technologies for climate mitigation using life cycle assessment. In addition, Yang is working on quantifying cost implications for the electricity system with the integration of renewable and storage technologies using electricity system optimization models. Yang received his Master's degree in Environmental Science from The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Before that, he graduated from Beijing Forestry University with a Bachelor's degree in Forest Resources Management.
